BIOMariana Caplan

Mariana Caplan, PhD, is a counselor speciailizing in somatic approaches to psychotherapy. She is a professor of transpersonal and yogic psychologies, and the author of seven books in the fields of psychology and spirituality, including
Eyes Wide Open, Halfway Up the Mountain and Do You Need a Guru?. She has degrees in cultural anthropology, counseling psychology, and contemporary spirituality, and is a lifelong practitioner of yoga.

She has spent the past two decades researching and practicing in the world’s great mystical traditions, and has lived in villages in India, Central and South America, and Europe. Mariana resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she has a private practice in counseling in Marin County. She also teaches yoga philosophy and transpersonal psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and yoga āsana classes at Yoga Mountain Studio in Fairfax, California.
